A Mother's Love

--For Kim,

Warm, soft breath against her breast,

Swaddled tightly, a love none like the rest.

Unconditional love from first breath,

she’ll never leave him, even in death.

Silently she whispers, calming his fears

her soft hand gently wiping his tears.

Her presence meek but never mild,

for there is no other love like a mother has

for her child.

Time

The cold, bitter, endless wind
blows through the cracks of
this old house. Nothing to shield
against this new friend.

A house that was a home, now
sitting idle with no warmth. The
presence of life lingers, but yet is
only a shadow.

Your spirit lingers and reminds me
of your presence. The flapping plastic against
the windows shield me from the pain.
For its only been a small amount time,
and nothing is the same.

Whispers

Swaying like a whisper in the wind, her tongue
falls silent against his breath. Growing listless
and solemn, the undying flame falters.

He said it was a Tuesday that she left, but
her hardened heart grew cold months ago.
She grasped and crawled to him, calling out
but he only answered with the smooth backside of his hand
striking, like the cold winter wind.

His words echoing, he seems so far away as I watch her
gasp and claw for the last seconds of life as the vile venom
spews violently from his mouth.

Relentless

It comes like a thief in the night
quiet, unknowing, creeping
like shadows from the unknown.

A shadow forms of what once was and
leaves a trail of relentless sorrow
hovering above his bowed head.

He doesn't wait for her
his bitterness like bile
spewing from his wicked tongue.

Soon she will vanish, just a trace of a kiss
left softly whispering against his lips. His tongue
mangled with words of what could have been.

After You

Beyond the gasps and the stillness of breath
He lies in wait, beckoning death. But she does not come.
Her presence too late.

The light pales in silence, searching the shadows.
Desperately clinging between the here and there.
The stillness lifts.
Her silhouette pulling him to the slumbering
softness of the kiss lingering on her lips.

His shadow dredges along the wall, fingers screaming despair.
The tears raining shadows in the lingering air.
She stifles the silence with one finger
and pushes him into the depths of hell.
With Cheshire glee.
